sketches Nature's Calendar
The edition of Nature's Calendar featuring Pollyanna was broadcast
on Friday 2nd March 2006.

The programme's main aim is to encourage viewers to get out,
explore and discover nature for themselves. Shot in beautiful
locations around the country, the series offers tips on where
to go to spot some of the most rare and interesting animals,
birds, trees and flowers across the UK. It also looks at how
species survive and thrive in different habitats... so tune
in and get hooked on nature! Pollyanna will be featured being
interviewed about her work while sketching deer live for the
cameras at Calke Abbey. Check your TV listings for the exact
broadcast date
In May Pollyanna spent a day at Calke Abbey in south Derbyshire
filming a piece for inclusion in the popular BBC2 wildlife programme.
Pollyanna was filmed sketching the herds of red and fallow
deer which can be found in the deer park at the abbey, and was
interviewed by Sanjeeda, one of the show's regular presenters
(above left) about her work, her love of painting deer and other
British Wildlife and the conservation work being carried out
at the abbey.
'The deer were wonderfully obliging' Pollyanna commented 'and
stayed close enough for me to sketch during the filming. It
is always a little bit nerve-wracking sketching front of the
cameras in case something goes wrong - but luckily I managed
to complete some studies before the herds of deer wandered away,
or it started to rain!'
Both the sketches, and the completed paintings of deer inspired
by Pollyanna's visits to the abbey were included in Pollyanna's
2006 Christmas exhibition 'Wild About Derbyshire'.
The show is hosted by wildlife broadcaster Chris Packham, who,
with Pollyanna acts as joint patron of the charity raptor Rescue.
