Norton Picks the Winner

The winning ticket in the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation 2010
Summer Prize draw has been drawn by comedian and television
presenter Graham Norton. The lucky winner, Mr Wright of South
Wingfield, Derbyshire has won an original painting of a tiger
cub.
Familiar to most people as the host of his BBC1 chat show,
and shows including Strictly Dance Fever and How Do You Solve
A Problem Like Maria? Graham Norton is in fact also a keen wildlife
lover and conservationist, and he was happy to give up his time
to join Pollyanna to draw the winning ticket. Two years ago,
Graham left his pet dog, Bailey, at home to head for the remote
Ethiopian Highlands in search of the Ethiopian Wolf, for a ‘Saving
Planet Earth’ documentary. The two made contact after
Pollyanna travelled to the same area a year later, the first
ever wildlife artist to visit this region to paint the wolves.
Both Graham and Pollyanna worked with Claudio Sillero and the
team from the Ethiopian Wolf Conservation
Programme, which targets the greatest threats to the survival
of Ethiopian wolves and their Afroalpine habitat. The Ethiopian
wolf is world's most endangered carnivore. Only 500 of the wolves
remain, and these are at risk of extinction due to canine diseases.
The £1521.00 raised by the prize draw has been added
to the percentage of sales from Pollyanna’s Summer Exhibition
‘Beyond the Great Wall’ to fund the rescue of an
Asiatic Moonbear from a bile farm in Vietnam.
