Over 20 miles long, a mile wide and 700 feet at its deepest,
Loch Ness is the largest lake in Scotland by volume. The surrounding
area is filled with historic attractions, natural wonders, and
superb eateries. The Loch Ness Monster is just one of the many
myths and legends to be discovered in this particularly beautiful
part of Scotland.
Loch Ness is a holiday destination full of surprises –
whether you want to sit back and take in the landscape, explore
the history of the area or visit the charming nearby towns and
villages like Fort Augustus, Foyers, Cannich, and Drumnadrochit.
Or why not enjoy the fresh highland air on a walk along the
South Loch Ness shore - or take the majestic Great Glen Way
through some 70 miles of Scotland’s finest scenery.
At the southernmost tip of the Loch you’ll find Fort
Augustus, a picturesque village filled with warmth and character
– an ideal spot to view the boats navigating through the
impressive lock system of the Caledonian Canal.
The Highland Lodges are located near Invermoriston –
an attractive village, steeped in Jacobite history. Close by
are the impressive ruins of Urquhart Castle with its commanding
views of the Loch – and the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre
at Drumnadrochit, which unlocks the cultural, historic and geological
significance of Loch Ness (and tell the history of a certain
monster!).
On the banks of South Loch Ness, you’ll find the famous
100ft waterfalls at Foyers and opportunities for spotting red
deer and other wildlife. Travel a little further afield and
you’ll find Inverness, the Culloden battlefield and skiing
in the Cairngorms.
