Chris Packam Picks another Winner!
Friend of the Foundation Chris Packham joined Anna-Louise to select the winning ticket in the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation Summer prize draw. This is third time Chris has picked the winner – the first time with Pollyanna back in 2011.
TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham is a wildlife expert, photographer and author with a passionate concern for conservation and the environment, and Anna-Louise was delighted that he could join her to select the lucky winner – Kerry Beere of Leicester, who has won a hand embellished picture of tiger cubs. Chris has also kindly signed two copies of his book Birdwatching which will be included in the prizes for the winter prize draw.
Chris is best known for his television work and has been a regular fixture in our living rooms with the BBC nature series’ Springwatch and Autumnwatch since 2009. Like Pollyanna he often gets very close to his subjects in the course of his work – he’s been attacked by a baboon, charged by lions and bitten by a puff adder!
Chris and Pollyanna acted as joint patrons of two organisations – Raptor Rescue and Naturewatch, and Pollyanna also appeared on his popular TV show Nature’s Calendar, sketching red deer live for the cameras. Like Pollyanna, Chris believes that it is unthinkable that anyone could maintain interest in wildlife without formulating a parallel interest in its conservation and the environment. He remains optimistic for the future saying “You only need to walk into an art gallery to see that we have fantastic capacities to create. And now we need to harness those capacities to create our way out of a mess that we’ve created. The situation would only be hopeless if we didn’t know what was going on, if we didn’t know how to change things. But we do. So, there is always hope. We just need to let it out of the box.”
Sales of Prize Draw tickets contributed to the £13,000.00 raised for the Born Free Foundation’s 40th anniversary appeal.
