In Memorium : Jane Goodall

All at the Foundation were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Jane Goodall DBE last year (pictured above with Pollyanna).

For many years Jane was a patron of The Wildlife Art Society International (TWASI), alongside Anna-Louise. TWASI promotes wildlife art and conservation, so their association with Dr. Goodall reflected a shared commitment to these causes.

Anna-Louise said of her fellow patron “The world has lost a true icon whose remarkable work transformed our understanding of the natural world. Her extraordinary legacy will continue to inspire generations of wildlife lovers and conservationists.”

“She was one of my heroines, and I was fortunate enough to meet her several times over the years.  The first time I was introduced to her I was so over-awed I couldn’t actually speak – I just squeaked at her! Luckily Pollyanna was with me so at least one of us was able to hold a sensible conversation….”

Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, UN Messenger of Peace and world-renowned conservationist and humanitarian, Jane was known globally for her 65-year study of wild chimpanzees in Gombe, Tanzania. However, in the latter part of her life she expanded her focus and became a global advocate for human rights, animal welfare, species and environmental protection, and many other crucial issues.

Jane was passionate about empowering young people to become involved in conservation and humanitarian projects and she led many educational initiatives focused on both wild and captive chimpanzees. She was always guided by her staunch belief in the fundamental need to respect all forms of life on Earth.

Throughout her life and remarkable career, Jane inspired generations of scientists, brought hope to countless people from all walks of life, and urged us all to remember that “every single one of us makes a difference every day – it is up to us as to the kind of difference we make”.
