Derbyshire Life Magazine Cover

Anna-Louise was very touched to be approached by the editor of the prestigious glossy county magazine Derbyshire Life to be interviewed about Pollyanna’s life and legacy.

Nature and Nurture the five page feature about  “one of the world’s most revered wildlife artists and conservationists” appeared in the festive Christmas issue, which also featured one of Pollyanna’s paintings on the cover.

The article looked back at Pollyanna’s work both internationally, and in her beloved adopted home county of Derbyshire, but also focused on Anna-Louise’s ongoing work with the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation.

Anna-Louise said “Pollyanna’s artwork featured frequently in the pages of Derbyshire Life over the years, so it was lovely that they continue to recognise her contribution to the county.  However I was most delighted when they contacted me after the interview to ask if they could use one of her paintings on the cover – and chose this beautiful image of a kingfisher – which is one of my personal favourites”

“In recent decades the magazine has only used photographic images on the cover – but in earlier times often used paintings – and for several consecutive years in the 1980’s Pollyanna was commissioned to paint the artwork for their Christmas Issue – so it felt like completing a circle.” (1984 left)

The kingfisher painting “Jewel of The River” which is featured on the cover (top) was completed for inclusion in Pollyanna’s Diamond exhibition celebrating the sixtieth event to be staged in her private gallery.  It is also available as a signed limited edition print.

“It is rare to see someone combine two passions so easily and effortlessly. On the one hand Pollyanna was a supremely talented artist in her own right. However her ability to combine this talent with a genuine love and care for animals and the planet arguably sets her apart. She had the skill, but also the drive to take in new experiences and make a difference to the world round her…..

Pollyanna’s legacy lives on through Anna-Louise and the Pollyanna Pickering Foundation. Her work continues to make a difference and provide inspiration across the globe.”
