Foundation Help for Schools for Kenya

Pollyanna and Anna-Louise deliver supplies to a school in Namibia. We are proud to continue supporting education projects where there is the greatest need.
The Pollyanna Pickering Foundation has always been committed to supporting education projects and we are proud to have been able to make a grant of £300.00 to Schools for Kenya to purchase much needed classroom supplies.

Schools for Kenya is a Charity that raises funding for the construction of new primary and secondary schools for the neediest children in Kenya. They target communities living in wildlife corridors where human-wildlife conflict occurs; and where educational needs are often not met through inaccessibility and lack of proximity to better off urban locations. They originated by working in association with the wildlife conservation charity, The Born Free Foundation, and have since evolved into an autonomous organisation delivering health, wealth and educational solutions to deprived communities in Kenya. Schools for Kenya continues to work alongside Born Free by providing vital support to the Foundation’s Global Friends schools in important wildlife areas.

The beneficiaries – the children – will be able to earn a living in such sectors as the tourism industry or in safari parks, or become teachers or doctors. This gives the children a real chance of ultimately surviving in the real world, rather than resorting to poaching to survive. In turn, this assists to preserve Kenya’s most important asset, its wildlife

It is wonderful see the happiness and joy on the faces of the children who are fortunate to be at school receiving an education and hope for their future thanks to the efforts of Schools for Kenya. This is such a contrast to the expressions of longing and despair on the faces of the children who do not have this same opportunity.

Since 2003, Kenyan children have been entitled to eight years of state funded primary education. But not all of them are lucky enough to receive this entitlement. Many children live in poor or remote areas where schools are simply not accessible so they are more often to be found in the bush tending their family’s livestock rather than in school being educated.

Even if the children are lucky enough to receive the primary education to which they are entitled, without the secondary schools, education ceases. So we are pleased to be able to support this valuable initiative to improve their prospects by building and equipping more accessible schools.
