Foundation raises £13,500.00 for Moonbear Rescue

It was wonderful to be able to welcome visitors back to Pollyanna’s gallery for the postponed ‘Brush With Pandas’ exhibition – and all the more so because following the event we were able to contribute a significant grant to Animals Asia to help build a hospital at their new bear sanctuary in the Bach Ma National park in Vietnam. We were also very pleased to negotiate a wonderful agreement with the American Fund for Alternatives to Animal Research who agreed to match the £5000.00 we raised through a percentage of sales, donations and the raffle held at the exhibition, thereby doubling our grant to £10,000.00.

Sorell Coulson of Animals Asia said “Where do I begin in expressing how lucky we are at Animals Asia to have your generous and unwavering support? Your recent gift is truly wonderful. Your support means that we can push forward with the construction of our second sanctuary in Vietnam later this year. This will bring us the capacity to rescue many more bears and finally bring the cruel trade to an end. From myself, the whole team at Animals Asia and of course the animals whose lives you are transforming we send our endless thanks for standing firmly by our side as we continue our life changing animal welfare work. This is kindness in action”

In 2017 Vietnam agreed to end the cruel practise of bile bear farming for good – but this means that all the bears currently in these facilities will need a new home by the end of 2022.  Animals Asia’s second sanctuary in Vietnam will house up to 300 of the country’s last bile bears.  Pollyanna was passionate about helping the survivors of this unspeakably inhumane trade, and the Foundation is proud to continue her legacy in this way.
